Even from the first time I listened to Maxine Brown until now, her music still has the same profound effect on me and somehow seems more and more apt every time I listen. Her softly sweet vocals combined with lyrical content that every woman can relate to at some time in their life. In my opinion means she remains one of the most honest and yet underrated female soul vocalists of the 60s. With her roots strongly planted in gospel, I feel these tracks really let her vocal range shine and that female desperation and vulnerability echo in a variety of depths with enough soul to send chills and shed tears.
Enjoy!
