RIP Loleatta Holloway

November 5th 1946 - March 21st 2011

Sadly, one of the finest female vocalists of the soul/disco era passed away today - Loleatta Holloway.

Loleatta embodied an understated sexual prowess and wit which even to this day, many female vocalists attempt to emulate but can't. From her sweet melancholic voice to her fragile lyricism, you can't be fooled into thinking she's a fragile woman by any means when she blasts out surprising lyrics like 'you get down, you get down to the real nitty gritty' Lolleata isn't a desperate woman by any means. It's hard to fault the woman whose roots started in Gospel and spread across to the soul and disco era, never to be forgotten.

In memory of Loleatta, I leave you with a couple of my favourite tracks.

Enjoy!
