The life of a starving writer begins...

Just to give you all an update, I'm currently residing in Los Angeles... finally deciding to give up the stable income of working in Make-Up to dedicate my time to writing. Many writers were fortunate enough to be born into money (Burroughs, Fitzgerald etc) and managed to live a comfortable life with a regular income from their families giving them full creative freedom with their time. Others managed to hustle their way into money in order to survive and produce fantastic pieces of writing, fully throwing themselves into various situations and adventures in order to truly hone their art. Deciding to take a leaf out of Hemingway's book and submerge myself fully into my art at whichever cost that may be has been a very liberating experience. I will still be maintaining and updating the blog throughout, whilst aiming to complete my novella.

In the words of Henri Matisse- "Creativity takes courage".

I found out very quickly that the best way to avoid going over to the right bank and get involved in all the pleasant things that I could not afford and that left me with, at least, gastric remorse was not to get a haircut. You could not go over to the right bank with your hair cut like one of those wonderful looking Japanese noblemen painters who were friends of Ezra's.... "You mustn't let yourself go, Hem. It's none of my business of course. But you can't go native this way. For God's sake straighten out and get a proper haircut at least." - Ernest Hemingway

  1. Here, for what it's worth, is my best advice about writing: don't let anything get in the way of your writing. Be anti-social, if necessary. Come late, cancel appointments, be ruthless on behalf of your writing. There are a myriad of good reasons, always at hand, not to write. Don't let any of them get too much in your way.
