In keeping with the Los Angeles theme, I bring to you... Hollywood Saxons... a.k.a The Capris a.k.a The Portraits a.k.a The Tuxedos a.k.a The Other Saxons W/ Jesse Belvin....
Due to the various names they recorded under, they are probably one of the most confusing Doo Wop group's discographies to follow. Although the name was changed frequently, the line-up remainded pretty stable throughout their recording careers between 1958- 1968. Hollywood Saxons are a wonderful example of pop Doo Wop, managing to stay clear of the R&B tag that most vocal groups began to be labelled with.
The band formed in Los Angeles in the mid 50's and spent a year practising before setting out on their respective career in music. Most famous for their recording of "Everyday Is A Holiday" in 1961, although somewhat pop in sound, they are undeniably slick in recordings and have a sound that oozes with mono-dreamy-doo-wop-goodness. By far one of the finest West Coast doo wop groups... Enjoy a few of my favourite tracks...
Enjoy!
